Sectionals 2009

For anyone who missed Sectionals...

Friday night- Megan and her mom made us a lovely spaghetti dinner, a Saucy cake, and a Gnarwhal cake for Paul's birthday. There was intense gaming on the tiny tv, a campfire, catchphrase, and two Twister mats. The Gnarwhal guys literally crushed us at Twister, especially Brian. I'd say that was the best sober party Saucy has ever had.

Saturday-

It wasn't too cold but there was a WICKED crosswind.

First game was Iowa State - It took us a little while to warm up and we had some problems catching the disc. They had a fast, tight cup that forced us to the sideline a lot. The second half looked a lot better and we fought really hard on all the points. Unfortunately, we still lost 1 -12

Second game was Luther - We played zone all up and down the one sideline. It was a tough game and we played well, ending at 4-7.

Third game was Grinnell - We didn't play zone this game and had some trouble readjusting to man. It wasn't one of our better games, but we pulled through with the win. Final score 8-3

Fourth game was Luther - Us handlers finally figured out how to get out of their trap in this game and used the option of throwing over their cup. The wind was just really tough, and we literally could not use the other half of the field. Everyone did a good job of catching swilly throws in this game and a great job dumping. Also, I caught my first Callahan, Sara F had one as well. Emily had a sweet catch where she toed the sideline and then faceplanted to the ground, pretty hardcore. She also faceblocked a disc and got a bloody nose. We were up by three points for a while, and ended up winning 6-5 after a 25 minute point and some dispute about the hard cap.

Fifth game, Iowa State again - We came out hot in this game and were up 3-2 at one point. We played good offense and good defense in this one. The thing I found most satisfying is that most of the people in this game were Saucies who will all be returning next year. We lost 3-9 but damn, we really made them work for it.

So we thought we were going to get 2nd place, but it turned out we were supposed to play Luther AGAIN. We did not have another game in us, so they got the win by point differential. Whatever, we're going to Regionals!

Emily won the snuggy master award by unanimous vote because she's so awesome.

For those of you who went home after this, you missed out.

Me, Apple, Greenwood, Kane, Patch, Paul, Alyx, Justine, and Jen all stayed to party with Woman Scorned/ISUC. It started off crowded with a lot of creeps and football players, but cleared out to only awesome people after the fake cop scare. I gave everyone at the party a bite of my Superdog, even the skeptics (Jen) agreed it was the best drunk food ever. We had an awesome dance party, and as you can see from Facebook took lots of awesome pictures. Apple met the new love of her life (New Canada), and Sanchez took a liking to our rookies. We rolled out at about 3am as people started to take their shirts off, stopping at Superdog again on the way home. Crotty, Ben Lyons, Sanchez, and Ben Busiek came back to my friend Katie's apartment with us where we all proceeded to talk very loudly in the living room. After about half an hour, she gets frustrated and shouts from her bedroom "GO THE FUCK TO SLEEP. WILL YOU ALL JUST PLEASE GO THE FUCK TO SLEEP." No hard feelings, she didn't remember this the next day. On Sunday we drove home in a blizzard. It was definitely a successful weekend for Saucy Nancy.
