We began our journey from Iowa City only running about a half hour late from what I can remember. The trip to beautiful Springfield was fairly uneventful...Dre was saving the earth traveling 3 under, Em and Sara Francis were freaking out about the windy back-roads of Missouri that Megan was leading us down, while my car was too busy talking about butt sex to notice, and JoJess of course was no where to be found as that car was getting lost and stopping forever at a Mexican(?) restaurant causing them to arrive hours after us despite leaving hours before. We eventually reached our destination in exotic Springfield only to find we were staying in a sketchy basement at a house full of drunk people (who all wanted to be my friends because of my snuggie- don't tell me it's stupid). After refusing spaghetti several times and playing a few rounds of rock band we all went to bed to prepare for playing some amazing ultimate the next day.
After a few hours of dreaming of sweet run-through d's and bidding in the end-zone we awoke ready to play. Our first game was against North Texas whom we beat 13-1 (I still contend they were hella drunk). After this victory we had a bye. Next, we played Missouri State. We beat them too 13-3. Then we played a pick-up team with the one and only. We definitely won this game, but I don't know what the score was. The next game we played was jug, which was both challenging and rewarding. Our last game of the day was against Arkansas. It was a little rainy and we were getting a little tired and we ended up losing 8-13. This ended the day with the saucies having a 3-1 record putting us first in our pool and giving us an early morning bye (we should do that more often it was great to sleep in).
The party that night was real fun. We all got smashed (which was unfortunate for dre because none of us could tell her where we were or what we were doing). Em and I showed our dissatisfaction for Springfield's lack of Gyro stands (who doesn't have a gyro stand) on our walk to the party- I have no idea what anyone else was doing. We got to the pool hall and danced it up before heading back to the sketchy basement we were sleeping in. Needless to say we won the party. A couple people went to our new friend ben's house to hot tub and layout in his pool, while the rest of us fell fast asleep. On a side note we should def. stay with the hot tub guy next year.
Day three began with half of the team we were supposed to play in the semis leaving to go home. So John Brown forfeited, but picked up some of the pick-up players and played a scrimmage with us. I graciously offered to play for one of their girls who was limping around the field. I was later accused of dropping the disc on purpose (you know how much I love to sabotage other people). Jen was threated with a disc shoved down her throat. After this we were in the championship game against Kansas. We started off really strong playing well up by two, but they were able to bring it together and won 6-9.
I know we always say that we always play well and everyone is doing great, but this time I actually believe it. We had flow at some point in every game and really are finally coming together as a team. We can play well as individuals and do OK, but when we actually come together as a team (like we did this weekend) we can do so much more!
