Elephantitis 2010

Saucy Nancy went to our first tournament of the fall season in Grinnell, Iowa. Since we had 17 returners and 11 rookies going to this tournament it was our first ever where we were able to take a split squad. Since each team had 14 girls on it everyone got a lot of playing time and even just over the course of the weekend there was a lot of improvement. The first day of the tournament the weather was not the best- it was rainy and windy, but fortunately this meant we got a lot of experience practicing zone defense. Both teams got three wins in and had our final games of the day were cancelled.

X vs. Mizzou 13-2 Saucy
X vs. Drake 13-0 Saucy
X vs. Truman 13-1 Saucy
Y vs. Winona State 13-2 Saucy
Y vs. UNI 13-4 Saucy
Y vs. Macalester 13-0 Saucy

After the games we spent FOREVER at Pizza Hut and then went to the Super 8 for toasting. Once toasting was over most of us went to the party out in the boonies. My car somehow managed to get lost for an hour but eventually we made it there and good times followed. Lots of girls got their dance on on the tables and others challenged teams to flipcup. I'm gonna be honest... this was some of the most disappointing flipcup I'd ever seen out of us. I'm pretty sure UNI rolled us a few times. Fortunately what we lacked in flipcup skills we made up for in other areas. After a few hours of dancing, landsharks, pouring rain, Lyle's dog, mingling, sticks and cups, and other various shenanigans most of the girls rolled back on over to the always classy Super 8 while a few more slept in flooded tents and crowded cars.

Despite the late night on Saturday, each team managed to rack up another three wins on Sunday.
X vs. TSU 15-2 Saucy
X vs. Winona State 15-4 Saucy
Y vs. Mizzou 13-8 Saucy
Y vs. ISU 13-5 Saucy
X vs. Y 9-2 Saucy X

Over the course of the weekend a lot of girls won themselves some silly bands and bumper stickers for sweet plays - layout d's, callahans, scores, and assists. Going to our first tournament of the year split and meeting back up to play against each others in the finals was an awesome start to the season. Our next tournament is Exit 69 in just a few days in Northfield, MN. We're not taking quite as many girls to this one, only enough for one team, but hopefully we'll do just as well when we join forces.
