Exit 69

Exit 69 was another pretty sweet weekend for the ladies of Saucy Nancy. We won our second tournament of the year and had a real good time. Special shout out to the alums who housed us this weekend, it was everything we dreamed of and more!

I’m not sure what happened for the other people before this, but when my car got to Minneapolis on Friday night Mary Thompson was ridiculous. She had been partying with our Russian friend Anna for quite some time before we got there and was hilarious. After a bit of chatting I was challenged to a mud wrestling match with “100 pounds of pure fury,” needless to say I knew I was way out of my league and it was time to go to bed.

Saturday we awoke to cold rainy weather which made playing just a little bit more difficult. Our first game was against Winona, which we won 13-6. I’m not going to lie we weren’t playing to the best of our abilities, but we were still able to come together to win it.

Then we played Carleton’s x team. We had our first loss of the season 6-13. It was a hard fought game and the score doesn’t really show how close the game actually was, but we just couldn’t put it together for an upwind point after they broke us.

Our next game was against Minnesota-Duluth, which we won 13-3. We were playing more cohesively in this game then in the game before. (sorry I was in a lot of pain during this game I don’t really remember what happened)

Our final game of the day was against Hopkins, which we won 13-2. This was probably the most fun game of the day. These girls played hard, but we were able to shut them down on offense for the most part and win it.

Saturday night was pretty awesome, we had our saucy bonding time with toasting and after a disc of tequila Megan was out of control. Kristen won the coveted snuggie for her awesome work this weekend (and cause she’s just so adorable). Jenga was played, the handle was finished and everyone was in bed by eleven because we are crazy party animals.
A few highlights for those of you who weren’t there:
Megan dragged Kristen around in her underwear
Megan took three more shots after drinking a disc of tequila
Megan tried to pull Chelsea off the pull out bed by her feet
Megan was in bed by 10:11- which means I win the bet (I guessed 10:17)
Megan was back out of bed puking at around 10:55
Megan pushed Audrey into the jenga tower so she would knock it over

Sunday morning we woke up at like six for our games only to find that we had a first round bye and were three hours early for our first game. This sucked a lot, but…wait no, there was nothing good that came of this horrible incident.

Our first game was against St. Thomas, which we won 13-0! In the words of Dre… “We finally blanked someone!” We played really well as a team and our zone was looking real hot¬– especially since we haven’t actually practiced zone defense.

After this we played Minnesota winning 13-3. This was a hard fought game, but in the end we pretty much dominated. We started out down two, which in previous years would have been pretty much the end of it; but we fought back and only let them score one more point the whole game.

The championship game was against Carleton x. We won 13-3. This was a huge improvement from our previous encounter with them on Saturday. This time around we were playing well as a team and working together to get shit done.

This weekend really showed us how important it is for us to have our heads in the game and be motivated. The difference in our level of play between Saturday and Sunday can be directly correlated to how focused we were and how we worked (or didn’t work) as a team.

I am so proud of our rookies, you guys stepped it up this weekend. You are ridiculous, seriously you have all improved so much since joining the team and we would not be in the same position without you, so keep up your hard work and remember how much we love you. Vets, you guys rock my socks as well. Basically I LOVE everything Saucy!

Peace, Love, Ultimate,
Alli Patch
